Get to Know JJIF: The World of International Sport Ju-Jitsu
Many in our community are familiar with organizations like ADCC or IBJJF, but who is the JJIF (Ju-Jitsu International Federation), and how are they different?
The JJIF is the official international governing body for sport Ju-Jitsu, recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). It is the organization that oversees Ju-Jitsu in major international sporting events like the Asian Games and the World Games.
How it differs from other organizations:
- vs. ADCC: ADCC is a professional, No-Gi grappling tournament focused on submissions, while JJIF is the governing body for the sport of Ju-Jitsu as a whole.
- vs. IBJJF: The IBJJF is the largest organization specifically for the sport of BJJ with its own ruleset. JJIF, however, has a more diverse competition system, which includes:
- Newaza System: Ground fighting (Grappling), which is the most similar format to Sport BJJ.
- Fighting System: A dynamic combat system that combines three parts: Striking, Takedowns, and Grappling.
Duo System: A demonstration of pre-arranged self-defense techniques with a partner.
